Programme Update:
So far in 2022, we have been off to a flyer with many exciting events and programme elements over the last few months!
Camps:
March 4 - 6th - 2022 Spring Camp 1
March 18 - 20th - 2022 Spring Camp 2
We have run two of our famous Man&Boy Spring Camps which were both held at the lovely Avon Tyrell Outdoor Centre in the New Forest!
We had two wonderful weekends, with 8 families present at each camp. A wide range of M&B Volunteers (new and old alike) and some lovely weather made for a fantastic time away, and each family spoke of the significance of the weekend for them as a pair. The activities such as walks, climbing, archery, and raft-building were all designed to give each family a significant experience together, which builds strength in the connection and lifelong memories.
Here are some of the quotes from the families involved:
Man: I learned about the importance of encouragement, talking and you can find simple games fun I really enjoyed spending time together, being out of our comfort zone. The camp was a brilliant experience.
Man: I realised through being on camp how much more I need to do more adventurous activities with him, and pay more attention to his emotional needs. I really enjoyed everything about the camp.
Boy: One thing I will take away is to keep trying when it doesn't work the first time. I really loved the climbing and archery....actually all of the camp!!
Boy: I learned how important teamwork is - at least 3/4 of activities need other people. Climbing was really fun and rafting was great too!
Course:
Climb and Connect Course - 30th Jan - 27th Feb (5 Sunday's from 10am-12:30pm)
We ran our first Climb&Connect Course at Whitespider Climbing in Tolworth, with the use of the St Paul's Chessington Community Hall for the Connect Course! We had 6 families involved in the course and they all got something significant out of it!
Connect-On Events:
We had a fantastic day out at the High Ashurst Outdoor Education Centre with 12 families who had an in-depth session on archery! We have some budding 'Robin Hoods' among our Man&Boy families - it was great seeing each pair's skills and confidence grow across the day, and we all enjoyed being outside in the sunshine! It was early February and so the cold settled in quickly but cups of tea and snacks kept the spirits up!
