Application Information

REFER A FAMILY

How do I refer? – The MAN&BOY programme runs throughout the year.  Referrals for places can be made by providing the family with an information leaflet MB Information For Referrers (or talking them through the information on our website) and completing the online application on the website with their permission.

Who can apply? –  Someone working with a family (teacher, social or family worker, other charity etc...) completes the application after discussion with the family.

What are the criteria? – Boys who:

  • Are in school years 5, 6, 7 & 8 (although we will consider boys outside of this age range where appropriate)
  • Are struggling with life (e.g. boys struggling with behaviour, difficulty in making friendships, becoming withdrawn)
  • Would benefit from time spent with a significant adult male in their lives (dad, step-dad, granddad, uncle, older brother, family friend, etc) identified by the parent/guardian.  We do not provide a mentor, the man must already be in the boy's life
  • We are particularly keen to receive applications for families who may be disengaged with school or disadvantaged in some way
  • MAN&BOY accepts referrals for families living in Kingston-upon-Thames, Richmond, Sutton, Merton, Wandsworth, Hammersmith & Fulham, Croydon, Hounslow and the county of Surrey

What does it cost?

Each family place costs upwards of £1000.00 if the family takes part in the whole programme including a camp, course and reunion events. MAN&BOY seek to cover as much of these costs as possible from grants, charitable donations and contributions from schools and other agencies.

All places are free for families, and therefore if you would like to refer a family we invite the referral agency to consider making a contribution of £100 towards the costs (not compulsory). We are also able to provide fully-funded places, where a contribution is not available from the referring agency.

REFER A FAMILY

It helped me have more 1 & 1 time without us butting heads, we listened more to each other and just basically had more fun.
