Just four days into their latest fundraising challenge, MAN&BOY supporters Carl Myhill and his son Isaac have already covered more than 60 miles of the Pennine Way - and they're showing no signs of slowing down.
The inspiring father-and-son duo are taking on the legendary 268-mile trail to raise funds for MAN&BOY, helping more boys and their male role models experience the life-changing benefits of spending quality time together. Carl's employer, Bloomberg Philanthropies, is matching donations, doubling the impact of every pound raised.
The Pennine Way is renowned as one of Britain's most demanding long-distance walks, and it hasn't disappointed. Over the first few days, Carl and Isaac have tackled steep climbs, rocky terrain and soaring temperatures, while also having to divert around active moorland fires in the Peak District. Helicopters have been battling the blaze from above, and fire restrictions have meant no camping stoves or hot meals on parts of the route.
It hasn't all been hard going. After several days surviving on dried food, a hearty breakfast at Nicky's Food Bar became a well-earned highlight. Along the way they've also discovered fascinating Cold War history, passing one of Britain's former microwave radio towers that once formed part of the UK's emergency communications network. Reaching Hebden Bridge also brought a reunion with family before setting off on the next stage of the adventure. They've been welcome highlights during a demanding few days on the trail.
Carl and Isaac's journey with MAN&BOY began several years ago when they attended our programmes together. Since then, they have continued to give back by volunteering at activities, supporting other families and taking on increasingly ambitious fundraising challenges. Their Pennine Way trek is the latest chapter in an extraordinary fundraising journey that has already seen them hike hundreds of miles across the UK in support of MAN&BOY.
Every mile Carl and Isaac walk is helping to ensure more boys and their male role models can build stronger relationships through shared experiences and outdoor adventure. If you've been inspired by their journey, we'd love your support. Thanks to Bloomberg Philanthropies, every donation will be matched, meaning your gift will go twice as far in helping MAN&BOY continue its work with families across South London and Surrey.
Please follow Carl and Isaac's progress, cheer them on, and if you're able, make a donation. Every contribution makes a difference.
