MAN&BOY recognises that all children can benefit hugely from the positive, on-going involvement of a significant adult male in their lives. Research has shown that this involvement improves educational attainment, self-esteem, health outcomes and behaviour. We don't provide a new role model, but we support men to spend time with, and learn how to mentor, their sons, step sons, nephews, younger brothers, grandsons or family friends - whoever is the significant male role model in the boy's life.
MAN&BOY currently concentrates on supporting boys aged between 8 and 12 ( school years 5, 6, 7 and 8 ) as the transition from junior to secondary school is particularly important in a boy’s life. We believe that a supportive, encouraging male role model at this crucial stage can make a huge difference to a boy's self-esteem and outcomes.
We create an opportunity for boys to spend quality time with the significant male in their life by removing the pressures of modern everyday life: chaotic streets, busy households with multiple parents at work and the constant presence of technology. We offer adventurous activities designed to get boys off their phones and learning a new skill. We help boys challenge themselves, develop their self confidence and develop a bond with the male role model in their life.
